Cat Stevens nació el 21 de julio de 1948, con el nombre de Steven Demetre Georgiou en Londres, Inglaterra. Ahora, lo conocemos como Yusuf Islam, tras su conversión al Islam, el 23 de diciembre de 1977. Yusuf significa José en árabe.
Yusuf, se inmortalizó, gracias a su canción “Father and son” (Padre e hijo), publicada el 23 de Noviembre de 1970, por lo que el próximo mes, este tema que todavía sigue vigente, cumplirá sus 50 años. Por cierto, un tema indispensable de tocar para todo guitarrista que se iniciaba.
“Father and son” forma parte del lado B del álbum LP (Long Play) “Tea for the Tilerman” que contenía, también, en el lado A otro de sus grandes éxitos: “Wild World”.
Tea for the Tillerman
Este fue el cuarto álbum de Cat, que como habíamos dicho, salió al mercado el 23 de noviembre de 1970, y había sido grabado entre Mayo y Julio del mismo año.

Para los fans de Yusuf, el 18 de septiembre de este año (2020), se publicó un nuevo CD titulado “Tea for the Tilerman 2”, que contiene los 11 temas del original, pero grabados recientemente con nuevos arreglos, acorde con estos tiempos.
¿Conoces el origen de “Father and Son”?
Está canción fue escrita originalmente como parte de un proyecto musical llamado “Revolussia” junto con el actor inglés Sir Nigel Hawthorne.
El proyecto tenía que ver con la Revolución Rusa y narra la historia de un joven que desea unirse a esa revolución en contra de los deseos de su padre, quién trata de aconsejarlo.
Lamentablemente este proyecto de musical no se llevó a cabo por una serie de circunstancias y así fue como finalmente, al quedarse con la canción, la incluyó en el mencionado disco, cuya lista de tracks mostramos más abajo
Más allá del origen, esta canción se ha convertido, sin duda, en un himno de las diferencias generacionales.
