El 29 de Abril de 1967, se publicaba en Estados Unidos, el álbum “Happy Together” del grupo “The Turtles”. Un par de meses antes, habían lanzado un adelanto del LP, con el single del mismo título, que estaba en el track seis del Lado A.
Esta melodiosa canción, alcanzó rápidamente el puesto nº 1 de la lista “Billboard 100”, desplazando a la canción de los Beatles, “Penny Lane”. Allí permaneció durante tres semanas seguidas. A pesar de que “The Turtles”, pegaron una buena cantidad de temas, este es el más popular y el único en alcanzar la máxima posición.
Detalles
La canción fue escrita por Garry Bonner y Alan Gordon, ex miembros del grupo “The Magicians”. Había sido rechazado una docena de veces antes de ser ofrecido “The Turtles”. Tanto fue así que el vinyl en el que se había grabado el demo, esta desgastado completamente. La canción fue, finalmente, arreglada por Chip Douglas, que le agregó una sección de metales, más un mellotrón. Lo demás es historia.
The Turtles
Es una banda de rock, fundada en Los Angeles, por los vocalistas Howard Kaylan y Mark Volman, en el año 1965 (aunque se conocieron en 1963). Los miembros de la banda que participaron en la grabación del LP “Happy Together” fueron:
- Howard Kaylan – voz principal y coros
- Mark Volman – armonía y coros
- Al Nichol – guitarra principal, piano, coros
- Jim Tucker – guitarra rítmica, coros
- Chip Douglas – bajo, arreglos, coros
- John Barbata – batería
- Andy Cahan – mellotron
Entre los años 1967 y 1969, publicaron éxitos como: “She”s is my girl”, “Eleonore”, “You Showed Me” and “You Don”t Have to Walk in the Rain”, entre otras.

Además ha sonado en programas de TV, como en “Los Simpson”, “That “70s Show”, “The Muppets”, “Oz”, “ER”, “Two and a Half Men”, y “You, Me and the Apocalypse”, entre otras.
También ha sido utilizada en varios anuncios publicitarios, incluyendo marcas como Toyota, Ford y Coca-Cola. Más popular no ha podido ser.
