“Starman” de David Bowie, fue publicado como un sencillo el 14 de Abril de 1972. Además fue incluido a última hora en el álbum “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars“. Este salió a la venta el 6 de Junio del mismo año.
Este tema supuso su primer sencillo de éxito desde «Space Oddity», publicado tres años antes (1969). “La letra describe a “Ziggy Stardust“, el personaje que Bowie encarna en el álbum, enviando un mensaje de esperanza a la juventud de la Tierra a través de la radio”. Ziggy fue su alter ego durante 1972 y 1973.
La música cuenta con la guitarra acústica y los arreglos de cuerda de Mick Ronson. “Los coros están ligeramente basados en los de la canción de Judy Garland «Somewhere Over the Rainbow», en la película El mago de Oz”.
David Bowie
Nació el 8 de Diciembre de 1947 en Brixton, Inglaterra. Hoy estaría cumpliendo 74. Desde niño ya mostró mucho interés por la música. Aparte, estudio arte y diseño. Sus inicios como músico se remontan al año 1963.
Su primer gran éxito lo consiguió en 1969 con su sencillo «Space Oddity» que llegó al top 5 de la lista británica de ventas. Volvió a surgir en 1972, justamente con este tema (Starman) y el mencionado LP sobre “Ziggy Stardust”.
Su despegue final fue em 1975 cuando logró su primer éxito en los Estados Unidos, gracias a su sencillo «Fame», coescrito con John Lennon y a su disco “Young Americans”.
